I’m currently casting for an older male puppeteer who can sing. The piece is a very silly musical comedy which will be performed at FringeNYC this August.
I’m also seeking other singing actors of all types AND a set designer (if any happen to lurk here!), but this individual would be the only puppeteer.
The ideal actor would be at least in his 40s but able to play much older (the character is about 65, so the older the actor, the better!). His role requires a lot of nuanced acting ability in that he has to play both the puppet and himself onstage – and the two are locked in battle!

Vermont’s PuppeTree seeks a puppeteer to tour Summer 2013 in a production of Caps for Sale based on Esphy Slobodkina’s children’s book with permission from HarperCollins. The show celebrates diversity using diverse puppet styles, mask, table top puppets, 3 Punch and Judy booths on stage at one time, shadow puppets and hand and moth puppets. This production has a cast of 3 puppeteer and we have about 12 performance from Maine to upstate NY.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DRIVE!
Pay is determined by experience. All housing is furnished either in our farm house or in good motels on the road. We have a sorce for organic food and local produce which is donated to the puppeteers.
Between shows we are building a large toy theater piece and opening a new shadow puppet multi media production of Leo Lionnie’s book Swimmy. There will be creative building plus performaces and workshops with children. Or you can take Plan B and stick around only for the performances which are scattered through out the summer.
The PuppeTree Inc is an equal Opportunity employer and interviews will take place on Skype. No felons of any kind since we are around children.
Please call or email if you have any questions.
My name is Noemie Jacout and I am an independent student film producer based in NYC. The job is an unpaid one (food and travel paid for however), the puppeteers will have full credit and the opportunity to be part of this project if/when it is picked up.
