Drug Uses
Carafate is used for curing and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Carafate as advised by your doctor. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not use an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this medicine. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Carafate at the same time as other medicines. Use Carafate at least 2 hours after other pills. If you are not sure about the best time to take Carafate, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Carafate can cause dizziness. These effects may worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Take Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you react to this medicine. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, consult with your physician. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Don't take less or more or take it more often than suggested by your doctor.
