Prevacid is used for reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach and for curing and prevention of stomach and intestinal ulcers, erosive esophagitis problems and other situations involving excessive stomach acid (for example Zollinger Ellison Syndrome). If you experience a heartburn (and have tried to handle it and changed your diet) Prevacid may be suitable for you. Some antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, clarithromycin) may be directed together with Prilosec when treating certain ulcers.
Prevacid comes as an extended release (long acting) capsule for oral administration. The usual dose for Prevacid is a capsule a day, taken before a meal. The capsule should be swallowed whole. If you have difficulty swallowing capsules, you can open the capsule, and the granules can be sprinkled on applesauce and swallowed instantly. The granules should not be chewed or crushed. Follow your doctor`s directions on your prescription label. Do not take more of this medication or for a longer period of time than directed by your doctor.
Unless you doctor recommends you otherwise, there are no restrictions on food, drinks, or activities while taking Prevacid. You can live you usual lifestyle.
