Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for curing leprosy. It can be used in combination with other medications. It is also used to cure dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, usually occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It may also be used for other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Dapsone as directed by your physician. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you may take it with food to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, don't take it within two hours before or after using Dapsone. To clear up your infection absolutely, use Dapsone for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in several days. This pill works best if it is taken at the same time daily.
Additional Information
Dapsone can cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you respond to this medication. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, visit your doctor. This medicine should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Don't take less or more or take it more often than ordered by your doctor.
