This position presents various performances with Wishing Chair Productions Puppet Truck. The outreach programs are designed to increase appreciation of books and enjoyment of reading in children. Performs related duties as required.
Participates in the production of puppet and marionette shows.
Researches material for the preservation of the puppet collection.
May assist in writing or adapts scripts.
Designs and repairs scenery.
Makes, operates, and repairs puppets and marionettes.
Performs as a puppeteer for puppet shows with the Puppet Truck and Wishing Chair Productions.
Assists in the designing and creation of new puppet productions.
Operates a 15 ft. box truck
Lifts/Pushes/Pulls up to 75 pounds
Assist in puppet making workshops or demonstrations in the community.
May assist in the coordination of volunteers for the building/repairing of puppets.
May assist in training employees in the use of puppets.
Arranges and sets up displays in the Children’s Division of the Main Library as requested
Any combination of education and experience that would prepare the incumbent to perform the duties of the position at the appropriate level. Candidates would typically have two years of college from an accredited college, university, or a certificate from a performing arts institution AND a minimum of two years of experience in performing arts.
A Valid Driver License may be required in some positions.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the techniques used in the theater and performing arts.
Knowledge of library materials available and how to use them.
Skill in dealing with adult patrons and children, both in person and on the telephone.
Skill in operating equipment used in performances such as recording equipment, film projector, and/or lighting.
Ability to adapt children’s stories and write scripts for performances.
Ability to make and/or repair and operate marionettes and puppets.
Bilingual language skills.
