Prepare for an evening of cheesecake, jazzercise, laughter, and familiar faces as Miami’s four favorite girls reunite in puppet form in this hilarious live puppet parody show.
‘That Golden Girls Show!’ is the ultimate tribute Golden Girls experience set in a sassy Miami house in 1985, and parodies classic Golden Girls scenarios with new razor-sharp gags and put-downs. From Sophia’s get-rich-quick schemes, to Rose’s animal problems in St Olaf, Blanche’s attempts to stay young, to Dorothy’s struggle to shake an indecent proposal from her pesky ex-husband once and for all.
Devoted fans will fondly remember four girls from Miami, and for the first-timers, a joyful introduction to the brilliance of that television series.
From the creative team: “It’s not about getting old. Its just about being yourself. They were able to discuss issues that were so taboo but do it in such a funny way that they were able to get away with it. It was kind of the sex and the city before sex and the city. It was talking about all these naughty fun things, and you could say exactly what was on your mind. That’s the wonderful thing about getting older. People feel they can let themselves go a bit more and say what they think. I think that’s the attraction to it.”

WE ARE SEEKING PERFORMERS WHO CAN OPERATE “AVENUE Q” STYLE PUPPETS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ROLE OF STAN.
DOROTHY ZBORNAK: (Male Performer preferred. Late 20’s and up). Seeking tall actors with deep voices, superb comic timing, and the ability to puppeteer. Strong, sarcastic, sometimes intimidating and arguably the most grounded of the four women in the house. Dorothy was a ‘bookworm’ and an over-achiever in high school. Dorothy works as a high school substitute teacher and has also taught a night-school course for adults wishing to complete their high school equivalency. Dorothy became pregnant while still in high school to STAN who she later married and had two kids with. Stan and Dorothy moved to Miami but divorced after 38 years due to Stan’s infidelity.
BLANCHE DEVEREAUZ: (Female performer preferred. Late 20’s and up). Seeking actresses who can do faux Southern accents with superb comic timing and the ability to puppeteer. Promiscuous, selfish and obliviously conceited. Blanche is in constant and desperate search for the next love of her life, a source of both condemnation and amusement from her roommates. Blanche is sexually liberated in contrast to the sexual climate of the 1980s. Blanche grew up in a small town outside of Atlanta, Georgia; married most of her life to her childhood sweetheart. Though she is annoyed at times by Rose’s constant storytelling, she sees her both as her friend and surrogate sister. To be sure, Blanche has her own collection of strange stories which she shares from time to tame.
ROSE NYLUND: (Female performer preferred. Late 20’s and up). Seeking actresses who can perform a upper Mid-West accents influenced by Scandinavia, are able to deliver nonsensical dialogue, and have superb comic timing and the ability to puppeteer. Naïve and simple, although arguably the most kind-hearted. Rose is something of a pushover who rarely stands up for herself. Rose cares deeply for her friends and family, as well as all animals; although she also has a nasty competitive streak. Best known for her rambling, nonsensical stories about her bizarre hometown, St Olaf, Minnesota that her roommates endure with exasperated silence and the occasional insult.
SOPHIA PETRILLO: (Female performer preferred. Late 20’s and up. Helpful if older than other performers). Must be able to perform slight Sicilian twang, and must have super coming timing, the ability to puppeteer. Known for her wisecrack, put-downs and brazen remarks, often commenting on Dorothy’s love life, Blanche’s promiscuity, and Rose’s stupidity. She loves to cook, and always has some money-making scheme going on. However, despite her sharp criticism of her daughter and roommates, she cares and loves for them deeply. The other women usually seek Sophia out for advice, which Sophia is all too willing to share, usually beginning with her catchphrase, ‘Picture it.’
STANLEY ZBORNAK: (Male performer. Non-puppeteering role). Stan is one of life’s losers. Childish, selfish and vain, even his own mother dislikes him and he only succeeds in life from dumb luck. A novelty salesman but not a successful one. He is known to be very cheap and gets involved in scams. Sophia is downright hostile to Stan, but the other characters tolerate him. Stan has never really stopped loving Dorothy and had to live with the fact he had messed up a good thing by his bad judgements. Actor does not need to be physically in shape. Dry delivery and superb comic timing a must, moustache and bald head a plus. Actor also doubles in one scene as a television delivery man.
