The Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS) is a series of exercises, similar to Pilates with influences of Thai Massage and dance, that focuses on the alignment of the spine and hips to improve the quality and ease of one’s movement. Participants will be guided through the various movements, which promote awareness of and strengthen underused or misused posture muscles. As such, participants can expect to see some immediate improvement in their spinal and hip alignment, or at least gain an awareness of what work needs to be done to achieve better alignment. This awareness has untold possibilities for helping puppeteers since puppeteers often find themselves in strenuous, distorted positions. This system will help participants not only recover after long hours in these positions, but also to see better ways of adjusting their bodies within these strenuous positions to prevent future injury and misalignment. Through this system, we could make puppeteering more comfortable and injury free, and so, more open to all.
Prerequisites: Participants should have a very basic understanding of anatomy and be able to perform minor movement isolations (chest, hips, neck), but all levels of understanding are welcome. Participants should wear clothing suitable for movement and socks. Participants must be comfortable sitting and lying down on the floor. A yoga mat and/or pillow are great ideas, but not necessary.
