Designed for beginners, this workshop will share the rather simple process of creating a green screen video and adding a backdrop with an iPhone and iMovie, and if time permits an introduction to the more versatile (and expensive), Final Cut.
Students are asked to come with a simple script for their puppet (or themselves), and in the first 90 minutes we will shoot those vignettes in front of a green screen. During the second 90-minute session, we will load those videos into iMovie on a MacBook (or on the student’s MacBook), select backdrops, edit the videos, and complete the “merging process.” Any extra workshop time will be spent with students collaborating on short vignettes, filming, and editing.
This workshop will work best for students who can bring their own iPhones and Apple laptops, as there are many programs for green screening and each one takes time to learn. There is a green screening app for iPad called Do Ink, which would suffice for this workshop if necessary.
- Best: iPhone, Apple laptop with iMovie
- Second Best: video camera, laptop with iMovie
