Northeast Storytelling (NEST)
Now Accepting Proposals for the 2018 Sharing the Fire Conference
The 2018 Sharing the Fire – Northeast Storytelling Conference & Festival will be held March 23-25 in Plymouth, MA at Hotel 1620. See lanes.org for more details.
This year’s theme “Discovering Authenticity” brings to mind many questions, including: How has storytelling, over time, supported, manipulated or obscured authentic history, and how can we now welcome, create, and present stories that portray truer pictures? How do we tell significant stories that represent the complexity of situations and can be valued by audiences with diverse points of view? How do we tell stories from cultures not our own and honor the integrity of the tales? What is an authentic relationship between a teller and her/his audience, and how is it achieved?
“Discovering Authenticity” will be the topic of one of the workshop strands. Other topics include but are not limited to: advanced workshops; workshops combining storytelling with other performance arts (dance, comedy, puppetry); technology-based workshops; workshops on stories from specific cultures; and a double-session beginner workshop. We will also accept coaching applications. Coaching presentations will be held during regular workshop sessions. Applications for coaching should be submitted on the Coaching Application Form. Please note that we are NOT accepting applications for intensives this year. All submitted workshops should work within the 90-minute time frame.
The deadline for submission of workshop and coaching proposals is midnight (EDT), Friday, October 13. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, you may find the call and application forms at http://lanes.org/storytelling-conference/2018-call-for-proposals/
We are looking forward to another year of outstanding applications. Please direct any questions to Deb Roe at [email protected]
