Puppet Showplace Theater seeks an energetic, creative, and results-oriented Communications Director to oversee all of the theater’s marketing and promotional activities.
As a key-member of the theater’s leadership team, your mission is to create public awareness of Puppet Showplace Theater by exciting audiences about the world-class puppetry we present in Brookline, Boston, and beyond. You are also responsible for managing the marketing team’s time and financial resources to achieve the greatest possible impact.
Create and implement an annual marketing and communications strategy for all puppetry programming and development activities.
Understand the theater’s target audience(s) and make recommendations for how our programming can respond to their needs.
Work with core staff to set and achieve sales targets for tickets, memberships, program ads, and other product areas.
Manage the theater’s advertising budget.
Write press releases, send media listings, and handle all media inquiries.
Maintain the theater’s website content and social media presence.
Oversee brand guidelines. Work with graphic designer to plan and implement all print and digital materials.
Represent the theater at promotional events.
Develop and nurture relationships with partner organizations including schools, businesses, and other cultural institutions.
Professional experience creating, implementing, and evaluating marketing campaigns.
Exceptional writing and proofreading ability.
Resourcefulness and fiscal discipline with limited budgets.
Strong teamwork, time management, and leadership skills.
Familiarity with media production technology (text, image, web, video).
Knowledge of the Boston arts and entertainment market.
Passion for puppetry, family / youth entertainment, and performing arts.
Start Date and Time Commitment:
Part-time salaried, appx 30 hours/week.
Flexible scheduling with occasional nights and weekends.
Ideal start date: summer 2016.
While this is currently a part-time position, there is considerable room for growth based on interest and achievement.
Salary Range and Benefits:
$25,000 – $28,000 / year
Two weeks paid vacation

Puppet Showplace is dedicated to presenting outstanding professional puppetry to diverse audiences through performances, workshops, and community outreach activities.
Over 20,000 patrons attend over 300 shows presented each year at our Brookline Village location. Thousands more encounter our work on tour throughout New England. Our programming includes mainstage performances for youth and family audiences, “Puppets at Night” shows for adults, and numerous camps and classes for aspiring puppeteers of all ages.
The Communications Director is part of a core four-person administrative team. Our dedicated and hard-working staff brings the energy of a start up to a venerable cultural institution.
