I'm looking for a puppet script titled "The Puppeteer" and featuring two puppet, Spots and Stripes, who learn to live together - despite their differences. I can remember everything about this script except the author! It's an old script, but I'm hoping someone in your organization will remember it. Thanks for any help you can give. In the Bay Area who would like to combine efforts to do shows in the Bay area for puppet birthday parties, school assemblies at pre schools, after schools, day cares, elementary schools. I am looking for a carpentry oriented person who can help with the stabilizing of some of my stage sets, predominantly, who enjoys creativity, children, and who may like to give a hand every now and again. Also, because I build innovative props etc. and I also do parties that combine magic with puppetry. I however, cannot have rabbits and so on where I live, and my persian cat won't go to parties, I need someone who maybe willing to be friendly and who may have another job, who can assist me to borrow a rabbit ? Now and again ? I can pull them out of the darnest places. I build rather interesting puppet props. To change a puppet into an animal is most exciting. Actually, I would like to find a male friend, for potential friendship, who may have another job, and does puppetry as a hobby who is a handy dandy person. And, or, others who can assist to take second shows, and have a small agency. This is also open to women who may do creative puppet ventures with children with also puppetry, music, magic, etc. e-mail if in the Bay Area in Calif. magicalpuppetime@aol.com. Redmoon’s new Jeff-recommended production explores struggle, sorrow, and salvation, drawing from such varied sources as William Kennedy’s Ironweed, Dante’s Inferno, T.S. Eliot’s The Hollow Men, tramp art, Santos sculpture, and other period literature, music, and art. Boneyard Prayer tells a Depression-era tale of one man’s fractured life and ultimate redemption using various forms of puppetry and shadow images, along with extraordinary music inspired by the songs of the age. The production runs to May 11th., 2008, Chicago, Illinois.
“A haunted and haunting production… a masterful work of art” -The Sun-Times
“Redmoon’s latest marvel… engaging and frequently heartbreaking” -The Chicago Tribune
“A haunting and forlorn meditation on loss, regret, and the longing for redemption… deeply affecting” -The Chicago Reader
“An artfully crafted meditation on loss and grief and human failure and forgiveness… wonderful theater” -The Daily Herald
“Beautiful show… an audio visual treat and a fine piece of artistic story telling” -Chicagocritic.com
“A visual spectacle intended for grown-ups… original, arresting visuals rendered with ramshackle-yet-confident elegance” -Time Out Chicago

A full week of puppetry workshops and performances will be available to all puppet enthusiasts this summer. PuppetFest MidWest, an annual puppetry festival, will be held once again in Trenton, Missouri on the campus of North Central Missouri College on July 8 -13, 2008. Festival Directors Peter Allen and Debbie Lutzky Allen from Jamesport, Missouri are pleased to announce the workshops for this season. This event is funded by the Rumpelstiltskin Society, a not-for-profit corporation created to inspire, strengthen and renew commitment to good puppet theatre. Puppeteers from all over the U.S. and Canada attend PuppetFest MidWest. Attendees have flown in from Japan, Belize, Brazil and Israel as well. Festival registrants stay in the NCMC dorms and attend an entire week of puppetry workshops taught by some of the best puppeteers in North America. This year, as in past years, there will be workshops on marionette manipulation as well as construction and performance techniques for rod puppets and shadow puppets. There will be a workshop on scriptwriting for the puppet theatre, and on making and using needle-felted puppets, moving mouth puppets and hand puppets. There is even a workshop for beginning ventriloquists. A new workshop this year is PUPPETRY 101, designed for educators and beginning puppeteers. Registrants will learn how to make and use four different types of puppets and techniques for creating assembly and classroom programs that meet curriculum and performing arts standards while touching the hearts of their audiences. In another new workshop, Director Art Grueneberger will teach TECHNIQUES IN TABLE-TOP PUPPETRY. Registrants become cast members in a performance of Grueneberger’s “Perspectives” that will take place at the end of the week. Up to date information about all of these workshops is available on the PuppetFest MidWest website at www.puppetfestival.org. If you have talked to anyone who attended any of the last five PuppetFest MidWests, you will find converts to the philosophy that puppets are not just for children. The skill of the puppeteer is to help the audience into the belief that the puppet they see before them is actually thinking, feeling, moving and living at that very moment. PuppetFest MidWest offers performances as well as workshops. There will be a different puppet show every night beginning Tuesday, July 8 and ending on Saturday, July 12. All performances will be held in Trenton at the Hoover Theater on the third floor of the Grundy County Jewett Norris Library. General Admission is $5.00. These puppet performances are for family audiences. The week’s performance schedule is available online at www.puppetfestival.org. An exhibit of puppets will be featured at the Dorris Rider Art Gallery at North Central Missouri College in Trenton. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Large groups such as church/fraternal organizations, Scouts or Red Hat Ladies are encouraged to reserve a guided tour. During the Grand Opening of the Puppet Exhibit on Wednesday, July 9 at 4:30 p.m., the exhibitors will be on hand to answer questions and maybe even demonstrate their creations. For more information about PuppetFest MidWest, please call (660) 684-6825 or go online to www.puppetfestival.org. |

Cincinnati based advertising agency Focus/FGW and we¹re currently seeks an individual who is very skilled in making hand shadow puppets (specifically animal shadow puppets using just their hands) for a television commercial for one of our clients. The basic premise is that the artist will have to move as fluidly possible from one animal or object to the next and to be able to skillfully portray 8 or 9 different silhouettes. Only the shadows from the artist's hands will be seen in the spot. Our criterion is based purely on dexterity and skill, not on voice or looks. This is a fully paid job and will require several hours to possibly a full day of shooting in a local studio in Cincinnati with travel expenses covered. If you yourself fit this description or have anyone you wish to recommend please have them contact us via this email address or call at 513-241-3900 and leave a message for Brian McMahon. Any recommendations or leads you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. |

Sandglass Theater and The University of Connecticut’s Puppet Arts Program are offering an intensive three-week Puppet Arts Training Program June 29-July 19, 2008. The workshop will be offered to puppeteers, teachers, actors, directors, designers and writers who want to expand and deepen their skill and understanding in the art of the puppet. The objective of the training program is to inspire theater artists to understand and to experience the puppet at a theatrical medium. Sandglass believes in integrating this understanding of the puppet within the larger picture of expressive theater. Sandglass teaches a method of manipulation developed in over 19 years of workshops in Europe and America. Key to the training is the link between the approach to manipulation and the content of the performed work. For more information and to download an application please visit www.sandglasstheater.org |

Elsewhere, an arts production site and experimental museum in downtown Greensboro, NC, is seeking artists, writers, puppeteers and cultural producers for residencies during its Spring, Summer, and Fall 2008 seasons. Set within a former thrift store housing a 58-year collection of American surplus, thrift, and antiques, Elsewhere invites experimental creators to utilize the immense collection of objects to pursue site-specific material, conceptual, and/or technologically-based projects. Elsewhere's building—two storefronts on the ground floor, a 14-room boarding house on the second, and warehouse on the third—provides dynamic architectures for the creation and installation of works. Artists live and work within transforming installations; these interactive environments become platforms for re-conceptualizing the theory and practice of art-making as an ongoing process of exchange in community. Experimenting with museum-as-medium within a store where nothing is for sale, Elsewhere offers an unparalleled framework for art practices, processes, and productions outside the traditional gallery, museum, and residency systems. The complete call for artists, residency brochure (PDF), and application deadlines are available at http://www.elsewhereelsewhere.org/residencies.html. Email George Scheer, Collaborative Director, at residencies@elsewhereelsewhere.org for an application. DEADLINES Spring: April 1st to May 31st (final deadline January 25th 5pm) Summer: June 1st to August 31st (final deadline February 22nd 5pm) Fall: September 1st to October 31st (final deadline May 23rd 5pm) |
